‘What is Islamic Art?’
Aimed at teachers and students of the new Edexcel Global A-level syllabus and A level Art students, this day will focus on works relating to the syllabus (Art & Nature, Art & Identities, and Art & War) from Mughal miniatures, to Islamic architecture in Spain, to exploring Orientalism in the context of Leighton House itself.

10.45 Anna McSweeney lecturer in Art History at the School of History, Art History and Philosophy in the University of Sussex: Islamic architecture – Mosque at Cordoba and the Alhambra
11.25 Tour of the house in two groups
12.00 Lunch break (and opportunity to sketch the house)
12.30 Melanie Gibson, Trustee of Leighton House and associate lecturer, Courtauld Institute: Introduction to Islamic Arts and Calligraphy
