Patron: Cornelia Parker
Cornelia Parker is an artist and curator. In 2016 she won Apollo's Artist of the Year Award 2016. She was shortlisted for the Turner Prize in 1997. Cornelia has worked with the fragments of destroyed structures, as in Cold Dark Matter: An Exploded View (1991) and Mass (Colder Darker Matter) (1997). Her work overtly engages with historical themes and cultural references to transform the everyday through her art. She was the first female Election Artist for the General Election of 2017.
“Our museums are famous worldwide making the UK a prime cultural destination for tourists. What we need now is A-level Art History available in every school nationwide, not just private ones. It will encourage homegrown experts in the field, future defenders of the importance of Culture. Now more than ever, as we face Brexit, we have to fully understand what our cultural capital is and how we can best use it.”
