James Hughes-Hallett
Art History in Schools CIO was founded in 2015 with the educational, moral and financial support of James, who had previously secured the first ever grant for the Association of Art Historians – to fund the state sector art history programme (known as MSHAP), run by fellow AHiS trustee Caroline Osborne since 2007. As Chairman of the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and retired Chairman of the Courtauld Institute of Art his expertise and advice were invaluable. AHiS is eternally grateful that he dedicated his time and energy, to the very end, to support AHiS teachers writing the National Extension College online A-level in Art History. A legacy to be proud of - every student in the UK can now access not just a range of skills but a formal qualification in Art History, a stepping-stone to a career in the visual arts, and a satisfying life..
