Sutapa Biswas
Sutapa Biswas studied Fine Art with Art History at the University of Leeds. Whilst still an undergraduate she made her iconic work ‘Housewives with Steak-knives’ challenging imperialism, shown at the 1985 ‘Thin Black Line’ exhibition, ICA. After Leeds, Biswas completed her postgraduate at The Slade and the Royal College of Art. She is recipient of Yale Center for British Art Visiting Scholars Award 2019-2020, Yale University, and the Art Fund Award 2019, UK. She is a Reader in Fine Art at Manchester Metropolitan University. In 2021-2022, Biswas held two widely acclaimed solo companion exhibitions ‘Lumen’ at BALTIC, Gateshead and Kettle’s Yard, Cambridge University.
